What’s the best way to plot?

Quick answer: the best way to plot is whatever works best for you. After all, we’re all different. Interview any group of a dozen writers and you’ll find they all have different times of the day when they’re alert; different belief systems about the world; different preferences in food and films. So why on earth would we all agree on the best way to plot a story?

Personality Types

To find out the best way of plotting for you, first (a) think about your usual approach to problems then (b) try a few different methods. It’s not certain that the ‘best’ way for you will dovetail with your personality type, but it’s likely. If we work on the four basic ‘types’, we find that people tend to gravitate to being:

• Extraverted or Introverted [this refers to how you receive stimulation - from within yourself (introverted) or from external sources (extraverted)]

Will This Be Your First How-to Report?

You’ve got to start somewhere, but once you’ve created your very first How-To report and learned to develop your own research tactics - life will never be the same again. You can write a report on almost any topic you like, providing you have knowledge of the subject through personal experience or research.

There are loads of subjects to choose from. How about; solving household problems, hobbies, leisure activities, social activities, science, psychology, computer problems, mon~ey-making/saving, gardening - the list is endless. Simple, basic, informative reports.

These reports are written guidelines that give the reader more information on a subject he/she wants to know more about. You’ll find that the better selling reports are well researched, authoritative, factual and helpful to the reader in the achievement of his/her goals. Your report can be 2 or a 20 page document - it doesn’t matter, so long as it contains the information they want. Writing your report can be very easy. However, it does take longer for some than it does for others, even if they are equally intelligent and knowledgeable.

A Writers Personal Cheer Squad

We all need a cheer squad.

We all need people to say ‘Good on you!’; ‘Way to go!’; ‘You’ve done a great job’; ‘You’re really on the way.’

We need people to say ‘Don’t worry, this is just a temporary setback’; or ‘Of course you can do it’ when we encounter obstacles. (Hey, you think nothing of putting plenty of hurdles in your character’s way-why should you get through unscathed?)

Writers tend to get depressed and give up when nobody appears to care whether they write or whether they don’t. Sure, it’s really up to us if we feel that urge to create-in one way, we shouldn’t have to rely on the support or approval of others. But let’s get real. Most of us do care. We feel so much more inspired to go on if there’s someone who believes in us; someone to urge us to take the next step.

Most of us are lucky in that we have supportive families or partners. They might groan at the idea of extra responsibilities - or seeing less of us because we’re hiding away tapping at a keyboard - but they know how much it means to us. They rejoice in our successes. They commiserate when a rejection arrives or when life gets in the way and we can’t write for weeks (or months). It makes a difference to have someone who’s in your corner.

[When I was a nineteen-year-old high school student and budding poet ? two years after my diving accident] many factors adversely affected my creativity. My trips in a special bus to school and back home, my courses, and my assignments, though I was spared a lot of writing and was mostly tested orally, all this was time-consuming. More often than not, my obligation to study took priority over my desire to compose poetry.

To tell the truth, I had plenty of free time. That I spent much of it uncreatively showed evidence of frivolousness, laziness, and cowardliness. I usually preferred to take my mind off things, or to daydream, rather than to express myself through poems. The satisfaction I could derive from achieving this expression seldom induced me to try. The deterring elements were the difficulty of trying and the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of my efforts.

Been ruminating on this one for a little while now but it’s probably one of the most profound discoveries of my life. It all began with a little book about music and it’s had such a deep influence on my copywriting and small business, indeed my whole outlook on life, I’d like to share it with you all now.

There are two primary factors in creating a successful reference box, also called a bio box, that get the results you want from your Internet-posted articles. The first is adding the right keywords into the language. Second, is to write tiny ads that led to a call to action. Neither is going to be easy, but both are necessary and accomplishable.

Simply, distribution of these articles is solely for electronic publishing. Guidelines from publishers prefer 500 to 1400 word counts with an average of 700 to 800. Creative intentions range from building an expertise in a particular market, topic or industry, a taste of a topic for marketing of a product, or as a paid writing gig for others, so that they may complete one of the other previously mentioned intentions. Publishing can occur inside a newsletter, also called an ezine or electronic newsletter, or be published on a website. Each has its own pros and cons. Website posting does tip the scale higher on the pro side.

Don’t worry about grammar, punctuation, or any formatting or structure. Just jot down the first thing that comes and go with it, whether it takes you into another story, a description of other things, or your opinion.

Memoir Writing Help, Memoir Writing Ideas

You might not need any memoir writing help, per se, as you know your past and you know quite well how to write, thank you. You might instead just need someone to inspire you, motivate you, give you a nudge–with some memoir writing ideas.

Of course, they started as a family of two–Diego and Susy–and have over the years created a photo essay that captures their physical growth (and more) over time.

In words instead of photos, choose one day of your family’s life (starting with your parents or guardians and adding you as a child) and describe what you each look like. Do this for one day every year for as many years as you can.

Are Your E-Mails Bouncing? Hard Bounces, Soft Bounces, and Everything in Between

Are you doing “the bounce”?

No, it’s not a new hip-hop dance.

A bounce, or bounce-back, is an e-mail that is returned to you because it cannot be delivered for some reason. You’ve probably gotten bounces on your own personal e-mail program, when you send an e-mail and then receive a response saying it was undeliverable.

These get to be more of a headache, however, when you publish an e-zine. Sending e-mail to more people means more bounce-backs. And too many bounce-backs can cause your mailings to be blocked with certain Internet service providers, meaning many of your e-mails won’t reach your readers.

What You Need to Know

There are two kinds of e-mail bounces:

A hard bounce is an e-mail message that has been returned to you because the recipient’s address is invalid. A hard bounce might occur because the domain name doesn’t exist, the recipient is unknown, or there’s some type of network problem on the recipient’s end.

A soft bounce is an e-mail message that gets as far as the recipient’s mail server, but is bounced back before it reaches the recipient. One of the most common causes for a soft bounce is a full mailbox. This will happen A LOT with your subscribers who use free e-mail services like Yahoo and HotMail, because they allow for very little e-mail storage.
