One WAY-under used technique to increase traffic AND deliver informative content is to write articles. It doesn’t matter what business you’re in, someone is interested in the services you provide.
Posting articles to your website is a good idea because it adds content for the search engines, and when your visitors publish your articles to their ezine or on their site with your resource box attached, it’s a free advertisement for you!
A BIG part of my business comes from articles I publish to other ezines and newsletters. So you can imagine my surprise when I found out how much traffic I was missing out on by not using these methods.
Create A Dream Diary

How many times have you forced yourself to sit in front of a computer and waited for inspiration to strike?Most of us at some point, whether just starting out or even an experienced published writer, have suffered from the proverbial writers block or have struggled to kick-start their creativity.
Sometimes ideas just flow and writing our article or story is easy. Inspiration flows over us like waves and the subsequent finished piece is almost word perfect and requires very little editing. But for those times when inspiration is on holiday or worse, on strike, help yourself to master those off days by creating a dream diary.
If you are one of those unfortunate people who believe that they rarely dream or at least have trouble remembering them, a dream diary is obviously going to be a problem.But you can train yourself to remember your dreams in the mornings, but this may take time and practise.
Try leaving a notepad by your bed or invest in a Dictaphone, at least if you do wake up during or after your dream, you can leave instant notes for yourself. Just in case on falling asleep, you eliminate all memory of this wonderful plot.
Dialogue Tags - A Study in Common Errors

Verb and Subject
Incorrect:
“I bet you two had a fine time,” said Ben.
When using tags, it’s unusual to have the verb before the subject. The general rule of thumb is to use this construction sparingly, as a rare change in pace or flow. In addition, many editors are asking this construction not appear at all in a manuscript.
Correct:
“I bet you two had a fine time,” Ben said.
The Comma and As
Incorrect:
“Do you kiss toads often? Or are you just a little weird?” Betty asked, wrinkling her nose in distaste.
“I often find the little green guys cute. You should try it sometime,” Bertha said as she giggled.
In both instances, the comma after asked, and the ‘as’ after said, indicate the dialogue tag isn’t necessary. Each is greatly improved by removing the tag and allowing the following sentence to stand on its own.
Correct:
“Do you kiss toads often? Or are you just a little weird?” Betty wrinkled her nose in distaste.
“I often find the little green guys cute. You should try it sometime.” Bertha giggled.

A book event (a book signing) is a popular way for authors to create awareness for their work. Most large publishing houses require authors to participate in a 10-city book tour, at the minimum. For self-published authors, it’s a good idea to arrange as many events as your time and budget allows. But, no matter who’s making the arrangements, there are five key ingredients to making the event a success:
1. It is very important to plan your book event carefully. This means knowing exactly what you’re going to say and how you will say it. Some authors believe that they can just wing it, relying on the audience to provide questions for discussion. Leaving the content to the audience to define is a poor idea. The author should take the lead. Audiences are there to hear more about the book, usually before they buy it. Have a plan for what you are going to say. You’ll feel much more confident, and then if the audience is familiar with you and your writing, you will have that much more to enrich your talk. Remember the purpose of the book event: you are there to convince people to buy your books. Be prepared, and don’t leave things to chance!

We all know people who ramble. They include every boring and insignificant detail, speak in five-minute-long sentences and take forever to get to the point. When they finally reach the end of their story, most people have either walked away or lost interest.
If you were reading their words, would you read right to the end? Or would you find something more informative, less boring and shorter to read?
We all have a tendency to ramble. It’s natural. And the more excited we are about a subject, the more likely we are to ramble.
Unfortunately, if we ramble in writing, our readers may not get to the “good stuff.” And if that “good stuff” is your website, your byline or a product you wish to promote, your rambling has just cost you money.
