Lets start with copyright infringement.

It is easily explained as copying someone else’s work without gaining permission first. This includes publishing other peoples work to your web site, newspaper, magazine or even just downloading it to your computer can be seen as copyright infringement. The last is known as a grey area.

Other peoples work means anything created by a person. It can be written content, graphical content, musical content or even html, JavaScript, PHP, CGI, patterns, textures, animations. It is anything tangible that’s created by a person. NOTE: A idea cannot be copyrighted due to the fact it is not tangible.

I have just finished reading a book on how to service my car. The author of the book explains in detail the different ways a person can go about the job. He also details tips and tricks he has learnt over the years that speed up the servicing.

The Secret Path to the Universal Heart

“I’m writing for everyone.” I’m chagrined whenever I hear a young writer say that. I remember what it was like when I was starting out and felt my writing had to work for the broadest possible audience. Then I spent long painful hours struggling to sort through the endless sands of potential without a sieve, without an easy-to-use measure of what would work.

It was hard for me to accept that even the best writer can’t help everyone at once. Years later, I heard my friend Kim Castle express the lesson best: “A point in every direction is no point at all.”

Well-Written Articles Can Help You!

You’ve heard it time and time again: if you want to get your name out there, write articles and allow them to be freely reproduced (with a resource box pointing back to you, of course). Largely, that is true. Well-written articles can:

- help you build your profile as an expert

- draw traffic to your website, and

- help you to build a database of potential clients through associated e-courses or a newsletter.

So far you probably haven’t heard anything you didn’t already know. What YOU are likely to be struggling with is the process of actually writing the article. Sure, you can come up with the content - but how do you really grab those readers? How do you keep their attention all the way through? And most importantly, how do you make them want to come back for more?

Let’s assume that you understand the basics of constructing and editing an article (it has a beginning, middle, and an end and you know how to check the grammar and spelling.) Most of us can manage that. But if you’re not content with simply “getting something out there” - if you want to WIN readers - then you need to start thinking about what they want to know, rather than what you want to tell them.

The universe is collapsing. The love child of infinity and time has become the basterd of yet another failed marriage, unbalanced and withered, troublesome and empty.

At eighteen years old, I decided to try to ease the burden of this kind of apocalyptic, paraplegic cowboy wisdom and take to the streets in search of redemption. There was word of an oasis whispered on the fermented grape vine that gave me hope, tales told by toothless creatures of a bright town that had not yet been severed from its sisters of hope and divine substance. So I headed down on the A303 hoping to drench my ‘John Majoresc’ universe in the kaleidoscopic colors of Brighton rock. Unwashed hair and linen shirt blew romantically in the salt soaked wind as I approached the chic, expensive Sussex countryside. My mind felt pulled toward infinity by the wild horses of providence. The thud of their hooves beating on the tarmac sent serotonin pounding through my nervous system, enhanced only by the wisdom of Marks (Howard, not Karl) chattering away on Radio 2. On arrival I promptly approached the nearest ‘head’ shop, brought a converted fire engine from the buy and sell section in the window and parked it slap bang in the middle of the town. Wheels and a home all in one. Every man called Sam should own one.

How to Write for a Paper or Magazine

l. Introduce yourself to the editor of your local newspaper. (Or, if you do business within a certain neighborhood, talk to the editor of the neighborhood paper or shopper.)

Tell him/her about your profession. Express your availability to serve as that paper’s free-lance “expert” for that profession.

2. Invite the editor to call you anytime the paper is doing a story on your field.

3. If you offer to work for free initially, it should be easier to get published. And this will show the editor your ability to generate interesting, informative copy.

4. Suggest a question/answer column about what you do. Develop a "sample" column where you ask questions consumers might have…then provide the answers.

5. You don’t need to stop at just one newspaper! If your customers are located throughout a metro area, approach all the neighborhood and business-related newspapers that serve the community. (However, if a newspaper’s eager to run your material for free, you may want to grant that newspaper exclusive use of your materials within the area.)

6. Give your sample column a memorable name…one, perhaps, that details the service you provide. (Examples: "Insurance Info" or "Tennis Talk," etc.)
