Effective Resume Writing
by: Dave Lympany
A lot of places around the world call it A Curriculum Vitae, in North America, it’s a Résumé. This is definitely one of the most important tools that any jobseeker has at their disposal. You may be THE best candidate for a particular job by a long way, however, if you don’t make it to the interview stages the company will never know.
Many companies (especially the larger corporations) will use computer software to “read” all the résumé’s and reject any that don’t fit a particular template. This may seem unfair, but it’s cost effective.
So, for some jobs you have to beat the computer and still read well enough for someone who may not have any knowledge of the position you are applying for. It is definitely worthwhile to adapt your resume for the position that is advertised. There may well be some of the “buzz” words the “filter” is looking for mentioned in the job description.
It is very important that you can substantiate all the claims you make, preferably with physical examples or letters. This will be essential in any in interview situation.
What Every Ezine Owner Should Know About Unsold Ad Space
March 31, 2008
The deadline approaches and your ad STILL has not sold. What are you going to do? Many publishers would leave the ad unsold, but some publishers have found "insider" ways to make money with their hard-to-sell ads.
Let’s face it, if the ad is unused at publication, you have made zero dollars. I’d rather have a money saver or a potential money-maker in the ad slot than nothing at all.
You have four great options for benefiting from your unsold ad spaces.
OPTION 1 - BARTER THE AD SPACE FOR SOMETHING YOU NEED
You may be able to get products and services you need in exchange for the ad. What do you need or want? New website graphics? Software? Jewelry? Whatever you’re thinking of buying, try trading for it first.
Contact possible trading partners and make your barter proposal. A website where you may find barter partners is http://www.craigslist.org . View some of the posts under the Barter category then post your own ad.
If you can barter instead of buying, that ad just saved you money.
OPTION 2 - SELL YOUR AD SPACE AT AUCTION
Writing: Getting Started
March 31, 2008
Writing for web content is one of the easiest ways for writers to get their work published. If you have yet to submit articles for syndication, you are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to share your knowledge as well as to promote your name. Getting started is not that difficult…you probably already have done so and you do not even know it!
How do you get started? First of all, you are already a writer if you participate on message boards or send out emails. No, I do not mean those one sentence responses on forums, rather your informative, concise, and persuasive responses to interesting and engaging discussions. Typically, we do not think of message board discussions as being good writing. Some is, some isn’t. However, much of the writing is at the very least a seed to something greater: by expounding on the thoughts shared, your article will germinate and take root.
Emails can also be an important article seed. No, not a spammy/advertorial type letter, but your missives to friends, acquaintances, and business associates. Chances are some of your emails contain the backbone of a potential article.
The Cause for Clear

The Cause for Clear
by: Susan Raab
Have you ever been in a situation where you needed an urgent technical explanation? It happened to three blondes.
They were taking a walk in the country when they came upon a line of tracks. The first blonde said, “Those must be deer tracks!” The second blonde said, “No, silly, anyone can tell those are rabbit tracks!” The third blonde said, “No my friends, those are horse tracks!” They were still arguing ten minutes later when a train hit them.
Being blonde myself, I think I can get away with such a joke. But the truth is, people today need education to survive. As our world becomes more complex, they need more and more education. It should be easy to get. In the twenty-first century, information abounds. But still I see that people don’t get it.
Could it be that information alone is not enough? In many ways, it is too much. People can’t absorb it all. I certainly can’t. I know I much prefer content where someone has already synthesized the information–has done much of the thinking for me. But I know from experience, to write clearly is hard work.
Fundraising Letters: Where To Find Creative Ideas For Your Appeals
March 30, 2008
How do you make your fundraising letters creative and fresh year after year when your needs don’t change all that much? I am not talking about new initiatives. I’m talking about the programs that you run year after year. The membership drive that you run year after year. The funds that you must raise to cover administrative expenses and salaries year after year. How can you request funds for these things over time without boring your donors into apathy? Learn a lesson from Jack Foster.
Jack Foster spent 35 years working in creative departments of advertising agencies in the United States. One of his challenges was doing the advertising for Smokey Bear. Here’s how he describes his predicament:
The first thing the writers and art directors had to do every year was come up with a basic poster.
The rules for the poster never varied: It had to be a certain shape and size; it had to feature Smokey; it had to be simple enough to grasp at a glance, clear enough for even a dunce to understand, and (if it had words) brief enough to be read in three or four seconds.

Some FAQs for Aspiring Copywriters
by: Glenn Murray
I get an email at least once a week from aspiring copywriters seeking advice on how to get a foothold in the industry. It’s obviously a popular topic, so I thought I’d put some of the more common questions and answers on paper in the hopes that it might provide a bit of an insight.
Q: What does a copywriter do in a typical day?
A: This question is very comprehensively answered in http://www.divinewrite.com/adayinthelifeof.htm, to summaries, copywriters do some or all of the following:
meet with prospective clients (”prospects”) or talk with them on the phone to sell your services to them (freelancers only)
liaise with clients to take a brief (learn what the client needs from the copy, who the audience is, what benefits the client offers their customers, etc.)
research the subject matter
plan the structure and approach of the writing
write the piece
liaise with the client through the review process (the client reviews the work and the copywriter fixes whatever needs fixing - so long as it’s not out of scope, e.g. a new requirement)
3 Steps to Creating Your Own Ezine to Increase Web Site Traffic!
March 29, 2008
What if I showed you a simple way to increase web site traffic that could sky-rocket your sales and make you an internet expert.
Would you be interested?
I sure hope so?
First, you have to remember the primary reason people get on to the internet. In case you have forgotten, it is to get INFORMATION. If this is the only thing you take from this article I will be pleased, because it is that important!
Articles provide a great way to get your message out and increase web site traffic. However, publishing an ezine is much more effective because you have a captive audience that is interested in getting your information. The reason they are interested is because they have given you permission to send them your publication by subscribing to it.
A subscriber is a much greater asset than a web site visitor, in the sense that you will be able to communicate to them for as long as you produce your ezine, or until they decide to opt-out.
So remember, when it comes down to which you would rather have?A hit on your site or a subscriber? The subscriber should win every time.
Marketing Your Book on Radio
March 29, 2008
Have you listened to radio lately? If you have, chances are you’ve heard an author talking about his or her latest book. According to the “Let’s Talk Radio Marketing” Website, “Radio advertising has proven to be one of the most cost-effective means of reaching your target audience.”
In other words, radio gives you the biggest bang for your buck. I wanted my new book to reach a wider audience, so I asked a marketing company to come up with a plan that focuses on radio, including ads in “Radio-TV Interview Report” and “A Great Radio Guest.” Why radio?
Radio is everywhere: in the home, in the neighborhood, in the car, in the workplace, and in the marketplace. Satellites beam radio programs to listeners all over the world. Campers hear programs on solar-powered radios and travelers hear programs on computers.
Convenience is another radio plus. To be on radio you don’t have to fly across the country or drive 50 miles, you just answer the phone. Better yet, you can be sitting in your pajamas, wearing mismatched socks, hair sticking up straight, and listeners won’t know it. You can refer to your notes during the interview, something you may not be able to do on TV.
Writing Articles to Boost Your Sites Traffic
March 29, 2008
Two important factors that play a part in the rankings algorithm of leading search engines are content and link popularity. It can be expensive to make changes to your website, particularly if you have used a web designer to create your website, a cheap and effective way to boast your traffic is to write and distribute internet Articles.
Internet Articles are a good way to combine content and links, if you write a focused interesting article using compelling copy, then there is a good chance that its readers will follow a link within the article or biography to your site.
Incoming links from web pages of a similar theme to your own help to boost your rankings, particularly if you include your keywords within a working hyperlink to your site. If your articles are of similar content to your site then there will be a benefit.
There are lots of good quality article publishing sites around, and whilst it can be time consuming to register and post your articles the math is very compelling. Consider the following: 10 articles submitted to 10 article sites means 100 links. 100 articles submitted to 100 sites means 10,000 links, and that is before the articles are republished.
Seven Ways To Connect Your Writing And Your Life

Seven Ways To Connect Your Writing And Your Life
by: Steven Barnes
An important question for any artist is: How can I built a career and simultaneously be true to myself? It’s an important question, and during the twenty years I’ve taught writing, hundreds of students have expressed the belief that success and personal integrity are mutually exclusive.
The Lifewriting™ approach to fiction suggests that not only do these two qualities overlap, but that the safest, surest, most satisfying path to discovering your true voice, your deepest creative flow, and ultimately crafting the most satisfying career, is to be true to yourself. It suggests that Aristotle’s famous debate concerning the relative merits of plot and character is a trick: Plot and character are actually two sides of the same coin. Character is best revealed through action. And plot is merely what happens when a given character engages with a specific situation. It is not only possible, but advisable, to shift back and forth between those perspectives, seeking to create a seamless whole.
